Posted on: January 22nd, 2012 by schoolkidph

Kiong Hee Huat Chai! We’ve got a long weekend coming up with the Chinese New Year holiday on January 23rd. Though my family are not Chinese, we thought that it might be fun doing something related to the Chinese New Year holiday. Here is one craft activity that you and your child can do together, the Chinese Dragon Paper Lantern.

Chinese Dragon Paper Lantern

Materials:
Printed template

Crayons or other coloring materials
Scissors
Glue or stapler

Procedure:
1. Cut out the body of the lantern and the handle.
2. Color the body of the lantern and the handle.
3. Fold the body lengthwise.
4. From the folded edge, cut vertical strips about 1 inch apart, but leave a 1″ inch strip from the unfolded edge.
5. Unfold the paper then form into a cylinder shape.
6. Glue or staple the ends together.
7. Glue or staple each end of the handle onto the lantern.

Tip#1: You can also make these with plain colored paper.
Tip#2: Make many lanterns and string them together to make a festive decor at home.
