Motorcycle lane on EDSA
Starting tomorrow, Feb 20, the MMDA will fully enforce the motorcycle lane on EDSA. All motorcycle riders who violate will be apprehended.
If you regularly pass this road, you’d have already seen the blue/white lanes and the sign MOTORCYCLE LANE.

What you should know about the Motorcycle Lane:
1. It runs from Monumento to Pasay-Rotonda
2. It is the 4th lane from the right. A study by MMDA showed that the said lane would be the safest for motorcyclists.
3. It is non-exclusive. It is a must for motorcycles to use this lane but private vehicles can use this lane too.
4. If the motorcycle rider wishes to exit the motorcycle lane to turn right/left or make a U-turn, the rider must give a signal 200 meters from before making the turn.
5. Any motorcycle rider apprehended for violation will undergo a 15-minute on the spot briefing.
6. Public Utility Buses are NOT allowed to use the motorcycle lane.

Many may doubt if this will work even after a week’s dry run. Let’s just give this scheme a chance, shall we? It does seem better to contain the motorcycle riders in one lane instead of them weaving in and out of all the lanes.. for the safety of every motorist.
