5 Things Kids Should Learn from Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, co- founder of Apple and a great inventor and innovator, died at the age of 56 due to pancreatic cancer. But his legacy will continue for generations to come. The life of Steve Jobs is influential for people of all age groups. With the iMac, iPhone, iPod and iPad products, he has influenced the way we work and enjoy life. Here are the 5 things that kids can learn from Steve Jobs and how his thoughts can influence parenting:
1. Be creative and imaginative. Think different.
Steve Jobs was called a ‘creative genius’. What can our kids learn from this quality? Kids should be encouraged to explore things around them and get answers. Parents should encourage their kids to think different, feel, disassemble and assemble things and make something from different materials. This way, they will become more creative and they may come up with something extraordinary.
2. Be passionate.
Steve Jobs believed that one should enjoy his work too and if you are not able to enjoy work then you should find the one that you enjoy. As a kid, don’t do something that every other kid does. Instead, concentrate on things that you love doing. Parents should also encourage their kids to do things out of the box and don’t force them to do particular things that the world around them normally does. Allow your kids to be passionate about the things that they love to do.
3. Do not fear failure.
When Apple fired Steve Jobs in 1985, one of the things he did was to purchase Pixar company that made huge profits with mega hits like Finding Nemo and Toy Story, and these had a great impact on the movie industry as there were changes in the animation industry. From this, kids can learn that even if they don’t make to a school team or get part in a play then don’t get discouraged. This may be an opportunity to do something greater. Parents should encourage them to be optimistic and tell them that even failure brings one step closer to success.
4. Some paths are unconventional.
Steve Jobs was a college dropout and he even said that he didn’t knew what he will do in his life. Initially, he started taking typography classes which helped him in the future after Apple was founded when many typefaces that he learned in that class were utilized in Apple. However, it doesn’t mean that you encourage your kids to drop out from school or college. They still, of course, should only take healthy risks. It may require you to allow your kids to take part in different kinds of activities, trips experiences and trips. Parents should ask themselves about what is good for their kids but at the same time listening to what their kids want so say. Parents should not criticize their kids if they are trying to do unconventional things. If they did, then what would have happened if all the creative minds downplayed their ideas and talents?
5. Be a visionary.
The personal computer invented by Steve Jobs was the first of its kind. Movie like Toy Story had animation that was never done before and gadgets like the iPod, iPhone and iPad were not there before him. Steve Jobs was always thinking ahead when many other was still dealing with what’s in the present. In the same way, kids should discover their own talents and not follow what others are doing. Don’t be afraid to have them do something that has not been done before because this is how things are invented. This is how they can change the world and make a difference.
Steve Jobs has contributed a great deal to the world, especially in the technology field. He is an idol to many, courageous to follow his footsteps.
