A D-I-Y Halloween Themed Bags
A great D-I-Y (Do-It-Yourself) idea came to mind when our local city issued a plastic bag ban this year and found us a surgence of ecobags being sold in every grocery store – Halloween loot bags!
We can’t seem to keep our halloween loot bags around. For some reason, I end up buying a new one each year and even at one time, forgetting about at the last minute made the kids just use a plastic shopping bag which made a total spoiler with their halloween costumes. They either get mistakenly thrown out, buried in the mess, or broken.
When the plastic bag ban was enforced in Quezon City a few months ago, one grocery store in our area, Rustan’s Supermarket, started selling reusable shopping bags. They were just plain bags with the usual non-woven material that is commonly used nowadays. But what is great about them is that they come in great colors, of good quality and are sold at a cheap price of Php15!!

A couple of weeks ago, bright orange colored bags were sold. Halloween immediately came to my mind. The crafter in me just lit up and my mind raced on this great activity that I can do with the kids — to make their Halloween loot bags.
Trusting the good ol’ internet for halloween themed stencils, I found a very big selection from Pumpkinpile, which has free printable stencils from the classic Jack-O-Lantern or Ghoulish themes to great other themes like sports, superheroes and even celebrity themes.
They each chose their designs, printed them and cut out the stencils. Why they chose those designs, I’ve no clue. Adult guidance is a must for cutting tasks!

They laid out the stencil on the bag, and using black fabric paint and a sponge, they dabbed the paint on the stencil.

Here are some finished products. This is really an inexpensive project that’s easy and fun to do. My nephews and nieces are coming over this weekend for the village trick-or-treat event so we’ll have another round of these Halloween loot bag making then.

Here’s another great idea: Christmas bags instead of gift wrapper for Christmas.. not only will your recipients appreciate what’s inside but the gift bag too! Now, what color do I choose?
