Fisher-Price Recalls about 11Million Toys

Posted on: October 1st, 2010 by

Yesterday, Mattel Inc. issued a statement recalling about 11 million of children’s toys sold in U.S. and Canada over serious safety issues.

Most of the recall lot are from the Fisher-Price  Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycles (shown left) where the hazard states that a child can strike, sit or fall on the protruding plastic ignition key resulting  in serious injury, including genital bleeding. There has been 10 reports of incidents resulting in injury from this toy. Six of the incidents required medical attention after young girls, ages two to three years old, fell against or on the protruding disc-shaped and D-shaped pretend key.

The Fisher-Price Trike was made in different models which includes character versions like Barbie Tough Trike, Hotwheels Trike, Nick Jr./Dora the Explorer Tough Trike, Go Diego Go Tough Trike, Thomas and Friends Tough Trike.

The Fisher-Price Trike toy series were sold in the U.S. and Canada from January 1997 through Sept 2010.  If you purchased this toy way back in 1997, your child would have definitely outgrown this toy already and must have thrown this away. But if it’s still somewhere in storage, go ahead and contact Fisher-Price.

Other Fisher-Price product recalls are the Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me High Chairs, the Little People Wheelies Stand ‘n Play Rampway and Inflatable Ball.

Though these products were sold in the U.S. and Canada, there is a high chance of these products reaching our shores, either from importers or personal shopping abroad. You may also want to contact the local distributor of Fisher-Price about it.
