Reading and Filipino: It’s More Fun at THE LEARNING LIBRARY!
Reading is the most fundamental skill and the foundation of all learning. And yes, it’s fun! But what if your child doesn’t agree? What if she feels reading is simply boring?

THE LEARNING LIBRARY is a one-of-a-kind center whose mission is to develop the love of reading in children. Its READING ADVANTAGE program takes students all the way from letters and sounds to high school-level writing skills, and lets them borrow from a library of over 4,000 of the best children’s books!
“Our mission is to develop not just the skill, but the love of reading. A child who reads more, reads well and learns better,” says Vanessa Bicomong, general manager of The Learning Library. “The Reading Coaches at our 10 branches are chosen not just for teaching skills, but their actual love of reading. They are highly trained to be able to assess each child’s particular needs and tailor-fit the reading program accordingly. Like everyone who is part of The Learning Library, they believe that reading is the key to a child’s success in school and beyond.”
Special summer reading workshops include the READING SAFARI, with fun-filled literacy activities for Beginning Readers (age 3-6) that aim to build not just reading skills but also the love of books; SPEAK UP! WRITE NOW!, a unique writing and public speaking workshop that builds good composition as well as effective oral presentation skills (for students age 8-12 / 13-16); and THE BOOK CLUB, for kids who love books and want to share all-time favorites with all-new friends (ages 7 & up).
But what THE LEARNING LIBRARY is really known for is its highly successful WIKA’y GALING! program. From Beginning Filipino (vocabulary building) and Filipino Communication Skills (speaking and listening comprehension skills), to Reading Comprehension (including the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo) and Writing in Filipino (preparation for high school), WIKA’y GALING! offers a complete program for students who did not grow up with Filipino as their primary language. Many parents attest to its effectiveness.
WIKA’y GALING! creates fun learning experiences and uses children’s literature to bring about learning that lasts. Adds Bicomong: “Some kids start quite reluctantly in our workshops, only to end up liking it so much that they refuse to do anything but Filipino on Saturday mornings!” And for lucky parents, the kids might agree to do it over the summer, too.
The Learning Library has 11 branches located in Quezon City, San Juan, Pasig, Taguig, Alabang and Makati. For exact locations and more information, call 4333135 or 0917-8192266 or e-mail inquiry@learninglibraries.com. Learn more at www.learninglibraries.com.
